Here we have an example of a silver groat of Mary (1553-54). The obverse depicts the crowned bust and the legend has the pomegranate mintmark after MARIA. Each element of the remaining legend is separated by an annulet and or, a crescent. The reverse has the typical square-topped shield on a long cross fourchée. The coin has been lightly clipped.

Here we have a very fine example of a silver groat of Mary (1553-54). The coin has been bent into the style of a 'love token' and is perhaps unusual in that most 'love tokens' tend to use debased/worn coinage. The obverse depicts the crowned bust and the legend has the pomegranate mintmark after MARIA. Each element of the remaining legend is separated by an annulet and crescent. The reverse has the typical square-topped shield on a long cross fourchée.

Silver hammered coin, possible a groat from the 17th century. The surface is so worn as to make identification impossible. However, the flan size with evidence of a ‘pellet’ decoration on the outer rim is indicative of Charles I Groat.

This is a hammered silver groat of Henry VIII (1509-47). This example is from the first coinage which defines the date range to 1509-26. The obverse carries the portrait of Henry VII with the crowned bust facing right. The reverse has the long cross fourchée over the royal shield. Both sides show the portcullis mintmark (108). There is evidence of a slight double strike to the obverse; otherwise, the coin is in good condition with some slight damage to the rim.

This is a hammered silver groat of Mary (1553-54). Although difficult to distinguish due to the amount of wear, the obverse has the crowned bust left and the reverse – the shield under the long cross fourchee. The mintmark of a pomegranate can be seen after the first word on the reverse (VERITAS). The coin is in poor condition being very worn to the obverse with some clipping and chips to the rim.

A hammered silver groat of Philip & Mary (1554-58). The coin has the left facing crowned bust of Mary on the obverse and the square-topped shield on long cross fourchée, to the reverse. Coins of this issue are known to have variations in the legend, in this case, the ‘O’ is missing from the end of the reverse legend. Both sides have a Lis mintmark. The coin is in poor condition with much of the legends and design worn away with frits and clipping to the rim.
