Five fragments from pottery vessels of Post-Medieval date with a combined total weight of 107.87g. These sherds probably date to the 17th or 18th centuries AD.
1) A near complete vessel that is biconical in form with small everted rim, rounded foot and traces of red/brown glaze on the orange fabric. It is missing areas of one side and is extremely worn. The closest parallels seem to be fuggling cups of 17th to 18th century AD date and it is possible that the current example formed one component of a larger vessel in this manner. It measures 57.42mm in height, 56.19mm in diameter, an…

An incomplete pottery spindle whorl of probable Roman or Early-Medieval date. Half of the object is missing due to old breaks. It is formed from a sherd of very micaceous Roman grey ware vessel with roughly rounded edges giving an approximately circular form. At the centre of the object is an incomplete circular perforation where the whorl would originally have been suspended. It measures 39.69mm in surviving width, 22.54mm in surviving length, 6.55mm in thickness, and weighs 7.05g. This spindle whorl is perhaps of Roman date, although it is equally possible that it was created in the …

Body sherd from a large storage jar, made from Glazed Red Earthenware. It has a band of impressed crescent decoration, similar to that on Jennings 1981 no. 1258, but running the other way; the points of the crescents are to the left. Part of a groove above the band of crescents also survives. It weighs 115.82g.
Glazed Red Earthenware is the typical East Anglian pottery type of the 16th to 18th centuries, when similar storage jars would have been found in nearly every house in the region. This example probably dates to the 17th century.
