Near complete Mesolithic to Neolithic adze. Grey mottled flint with thin chocolate brown patination, one patch of light coloured weathered cortex remaining on dorsal face. The object is triangular sectioned and in slightly rolled condition and appears to have been the sea for some time. Although largely undamaged there is part of the cutting edge missing so it is unclear if this is a tranchet axe of the Mesolithic period or an adze of the Neolithic period. The writer favours the latter. Dimnesions 125 x 47 x 25mm

A complete Neolithic to Early Bronze Age flint scraper dating to circa BC 4000-1600. It is a sub-oval secondary flake with a small amount of cortex on the left mesal. There is evidence of retouching, the shape suggests potential original manufacture as an arrow head and reuse as a scraper. It is manufactured from a caramel coloured flint. A complete flint scraper of Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. A roughly D-shaped flattened tertiary flake. Short, scaled, abrupt retouch along the curved distal edge and right edge of the dorsal face. A small amount of further short, scaled, low angle retouch along the right edge of the ventral face has removed the cortex here suggesting that it took place at a stage much later than the initial maufacture. Patchy medium to heavy white patination and orange staining in places on both faces. Length: 39.90mm, width: 35.01mm, thickness: 6.02mm, weight: 18.30g

A complete Neolithic finely worked polished stone axehead. It is an elongated sub-triangular shape and oval in cross-section, with straight slightly outwards curving sides, a narrow, rounded butt and a blade end that curves outwards only very slightly. It is composed of a coarse-grained basic intrusive rock that has probably undergone metamorphism, speckled white and blue-grey in colour. There is a patch of orange-brown straining on one face. It survives in good condition with only a small amount of damage to the butt end. Dr Emily Banfield (pers. com.) kindly comments …

Broad period: NEOLITHIC

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Late Neolithic chisel type arrowhead, made from an unpatinated tertiary flake of grey/brown flint; with the (now removed) bulb of percussion angled towards the right side of the ventral face of the broad cutting edge. The lateral edges expand from a 10 mm butt and are semi-invasively and bifacially flaked, and the cutting edge is similarly reouched only on the dorsal face, one corner of this edge is missing, presumably broken in antiquity as the break is glossy. Otherwise it is a good and large example of the type.
