Blade fragment of a cast copper alloy socketed looped axehead dating from c. 10th-8th century BC. Only about half of the blade survives, still sharp, with re-shaping marks and striations. The blade was worked/hammered into a crescent shape with slightly upturned corners. An exact date is difficult to give but a very late Bronze Age or possibly earliest Iron Age date is proposed. This is because the complete implement was probably very heavy and rather large which is typical for Early Iron Age Sompting type socketed axes.
