Copper alloy harness pendant. Cast plate of plano-convex section, resembling an inverted arrowhead with long curled barbs and a triangular tang, and with a small oval loop at right angles to its display plane. The design might be intended to resemble a swallow in flight; a small thickened triangular area lies to either side of the pointed end, and the loop springs from between the forks of the 'tail'. Other pendants of more clearly avian form are ascribed to the medieval period after 1150. Suggested date: Late Roman, 200-300 Height: 36.1mm, Width: 18.9mm, Thickness: 3.2mm, Weight: 5.21gms
