A copper-alloy possible buckle or brooch frame, of medieval date. Oval in shape measuring 16.74mm by 15.27mm externally and 11.41mm by 11.23mm internally. One face has three constrictions, one of which has corroded iron adhering to it. An iron pin may therefore have been attached to this constriction allowing the frame to be used as a brooch or even a buckle.

A fragment of a Medieval silver gilt annular brooch. A small segment of a brooch with alternating knops and recesses. A single complete knop flanked by the edges of the neighbouring recesses is all that remains. The knop is circular and domed and is decorated with ring stamping over the whole surface. What remains of the recesses appear also to be circular and would originally have held stones of some type. The front retains much of its gilding, although there is some wear on the top of the knop. The back is flat and undecorated.

A cast copper alloy object, surviving in two pieces. The object could be a Roman bracelet, but it is more likely to be a medieval brooch. The object is formed from a twisted strip of copper alloy wire. There is a step in the strip - which could indicate that that is a pin construction and therefore the object is a brooch.
The metal is a dark brownish-grey colour.

The brooch frame is circular, with a lozenge-shaped section and a bevelled edge. There is a pin constriction. The pin remains intact and in situ; and sits inside the pin constriction. There is no pin recess on the opposite edge of the frame. Neither surface of the brooch appears decorated. A similar brooch can be seen in Egan & Pritchard, p249, 1309. It is therefore medieval in date.

Medieval annular brooch.
One half of the hoop has been distorted from it's original circular shape, making the overall outline now D-shaped. The pin is missing.
The hoop has twisted wire decoration and granulations within each twist. There is a constriction on the hoop where the pin would have been positioned. To one side of this constriction a short section of the hoop has been flattened, causing loss of the decoration.

Incomplete silver penny of Edward I, Mint London, Class 2b January - May 1280. The penny has been reused to form a brooch with a small silver loop being soldered to the obverse face. It has been applied in such a way that the cross on the reverse is vertical. It is possible that the front face has also been gilt (although this may be a result of the burial conditions). The lower part of thE coin has been lost - probably as a result of movement in the soil.

Plain copper alloy annular brooch from the Medieval period.
The pin is a strip of copper alloy hooked over the frame. It sits in a groove on the frame and has broken before the point.
Two other grooves are present on the frame, opposite each other. One has been filled in. Perhaps they were for another pin and the brooch has been repaired with the present pin being the repair. Alternatively they could be for decoration as often this type of brooch was decorated with small grooves in the frame. Similar examples can be seen in Egans book (Egan and Pritchard; 1997; 248-9)
