A piece of gold wire made from four strands twisted. The wire was made from 4 smaller wires (diameter c. 2.4 mm) twisted together in a clockwise spiral giving an overall diameter for the twisted wire of 5 mm. The wire piece weighs 7.24g and is 20mm long (unstraightened). The fragment appears to have been cut from a larger piece of wire at one end, although the other end appears to be a break. Analysis shows these wires are made of over 80% gold.

Description: A small gold fragment now roughly rectangular in shape. Two of the opposing edges of the fragment are incomplete due to old breaks and the other two are complete but folded backwards to lie flat against the back face. The front face of the fragment is decorated with three central grooves and either side of these, along the folded edges of the fragment; there are lines are incised zigzags Discussion: No published parallel could be found for this fragment but it is most likely to be more than 300 years old and could conceivably be Roman to medieval in date. Fragment of gold sheet from an unidentified object. The sheet is folded forming a front and back-plate the edges of which are torn, except for the lower edge of the back-plate which appears neatly cut, and the straight folded edge. The front-plate is decorated with a row of stamped dots above a row of repoussé pellets parallel with the folded edge, the lower edge possibly torn along a third row of pellets or dots. Surviving dimensions 12 x 7mm. Weight 0.4g. Although ancient (over 300 years old) the decoration would be consistent with a Bronze Age, Roman or Early Medieval date, and…

Description: Crumpled and perhaps incomplete piece of gold sheet. It appears roughly circular in shape, but has one original straight side with a slightly burred thickened edge. This edge was c. 23mm long but is now bent about halfway along, with one half irregularly folded back on itself. The disc has a straight, slightly raised repoussé band parallel to the straight side and probably at the object's widest point; the band is about 3.5mm wide. Between this band and the straight edge are four rounded repoussé bosses which look like deliberate decoration, and seem too regular to be c…

An incomplete fragment of gold of uncertain function and form. The fragment of gold is sub rectangular in plan and flat. Facets are present on both surfaces, suggesting that it has been hammered, they create an almost cross like shape. It measures 9.0 mm in length, 7.6 mm wide and 1.1 mm thick. It weighs 0.6 g. As the original function and form can not be determined from this small fragment, it is undiagnostic of age and can not be proven to be older than 300 years. It therefore falls outside of the requirements of the Treasure Act 1996 and should be considered to be …

Fragment of thin gold sheet or foil, from an object of indeterminate use and date. The artefact comprises a flat, roughly D-shaped sheet, with a single neat straight edge. A crease follows the line of the straight edge about 2-3mm from it, forming a slight  groove or ridge along the edge. The rest of the object has hammer marks, probably from being beaten into its flat sheet form. Although the straight edge appears to have been neatly cut (or scored and folded until it broke), it is not clear if the straight edge is part of the form of the …

Description: Fragment of gold sheet, probably of the Anglo-Saxon period. The bend is almost at right angles. To one side of the angle, one face is decorated; a triplet of straight grooved lines, the central one minimally wider, starts close to a finished straight edge and runs to a break. The lines are flanked on either side by a scatter of punched annulets (about 1mm in diameter), part-annulets and large dots. On the other side of the angle, the sheet is undecorated, although it has bends which may have formed a loose corrugation. It has a short length of original edge which mee…
