Copper Alloy object probably a plumb bob of the Roman period. The object consists of a long pointed conical body with a concave taper. At the widest end it flutes out steeply to form a platform with a circular band around the head. The band is decorated about its entire circumference with a central segmented, slightly raised, collar, flanked symmetrically by a groove on either side. In the centre of the platform and integral with it, there is the broken stub of a square sectioned shaft. Both the stub and the cone have areas of iron staining on the surface. Incomplete copper alloy, probable Roman, pin. Only the head survives which has a piriform shape with the bulbous part at the apex. The narrow base is sub-hexagonal with each facet forming a grooved upward twist to the apex. The shank of the pin is extant as a small stub, with the rest missing from an old break. There are a number of similar examples recorded on the PAS database; cf. SOM-AF8F23 and BERK-6EF114. Circa 40-450 AD. Dimensions; length 12.7mm, head diameter 5.7mm, shank diameter 3.8mm, weight 1.4g.

On both flanks the bezel tapers smoothly and symmetrically down in width to form the "D" sectioned hoop most of which is missing from old breaks. Only approximately 40% of the ring hoop is extant. Henig type II; circa 1st-3rd century AD.

The spring cover is C-shaped in cross-section and the head has a Harlow type double pierced lug. The arched bow is undecorated and the catchplate is solid. Circa 1st-early 2nd century AD.

Cast copper-alloy plain Colchester derivative type Roman brooch. The wings are D-shaped in section with the curved section outermost. The head extremity has the corrosion-obscured double-pierced remnants of the lug to take the axis and chord of the spring. The bow is plain with an unpierced and complete but eroded catchplate. The iron pin and spring are missing. Circa 50-150 AD.
