Fragment of a Late Roman copper alloy probable strap fitting or strap end, an attachment edge with fine notching across the full width and above three transverse engraved grooves which in turn lie above a single rivet. Both sides are damaged, one more than the other, but the object does appear to taper towards a jagged and ancient break. On the reverse there are many oblique ?hammer marks. Notches are frequently found on the attachment edges of Late Roman strap ends and strap fittings, sometimes in conjunction with transverse grooves, e.g. SF-B068BD and NMS-656311. Extant length 26.8m…
