Early medieval iron adze? Length: 109 mm, width: 43 mm, thickness: 15 mm, weight: 161grams. The object is rectangular in form and cross section and consists of a flat ended blade like section, which tapers in width from 43 to 21mm, where it forms a rectangular cross sectioned shaft. This has one face which is rounded to accomodate a circular hole through its centre. Its possibly an adze or a wide bladed chisel? The objects function is unknown but it was found as part of an assemblage including a possible hammer head LEIC-FF95BA, a bill? LEIC-FFA643 and a possible blade? LEIC-FF8999…

Middle Bronze age copper alloy Palstave Adze, 121mm long, 22mm wide and 14mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 88grams. The object is rectangular in form and triangular in cross section, with a slightly curved blade. Its butt end is triangular shaped in cross section and houses two rectangular recessess either side of a central panel with a raised border to contain a handle. The object is slightly damaged around its edges and has small patches of original surface remaining. The object is similar to WAW-FLB395

A cast lead miniature adze of a probable Roman date. The adze is sub-triangular in plan and the cutting edge is slightly curved and has been damaged in antiquity. The opposite end is blunt and flat. The circular perforation is slightly off centre. Most of the object is coated in a light grey patina with light brown patches. Length: 20mm, thickness: 10mm, weight: 5mm.

Anglo-Scandinavian iron adze 8th/12th century AD part of an extensive collection from a known settlement. The length is 166mm, width of blade 52.3mm, hammer head is 27.2mm wide and 19.6mm length. The eye may have part of the original wedge remaining and was originally 12mm wide, elongated with a square end. The metal is slightly splayed in the area of the hammerhead, adze is curving, the width of adze in the area of eye is 25.3mm.

An almost complete Mesolithic to Early Neolithic flint adze or axehead (c. 10000 BC-c. 3500 BC). This implement is sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular in cross-section. One face has been entirely knapped and the other face has about 70% cortex. The flaking at the cutting edge end is long and short, scaled and semi-abrupt.
