Early Medieval mount; Anglo-Saxon mount with Style 1 beasts, dating to the 6th or early 7th century; Cast copper alloy mount with gilded openwork sections. Mount is sub-rectangular with crossing, relief-moulded lines sectioning it into triangular sections. The crossing point of these lines is off-set, giving differing sizes to the resulting sections. The largest section is undecorated but has a possible remnant of solder present, which may indicate that something else was once attached, potentially a silver appliqué, in the Bichrome Style. The small section (diagonally opposite the l…

Early Medieval cast copper alloy incomplete object decorated in Borre style, perhaps a mount. Possibly originally drop-shaped (both ends broken off, convex sides, one end apparently narrower than the other), with double-stranded interlace decoration forming a ring-chain within a plain border (border width c.3-4mm). The mount is curved transversely (convex on the front). Apparently un-gilded. No rivet holes on the surviving incomplete mount. Length 34.00mm, width 25.54mm, thickness as curved c.5mm, thickness of metal 1.9mm, weight 6.78g. Broadly 10th century.

Early medieval mount; Cast copper alloy mount, possibly a stirrup mount or similar, of probable 11th or 12th century date. The mount is basically sub-triangular in shape with stylised zoomorphic decoration, cast in relief. The narrow end of the mount has been squared off and has two circular rivet holes pierced through it. There is no other indication of the method of fixing. The rivet holes are positioned such that they indicate nostrils and the decoration then curls round to indicate a triangular snout, eyes, an eyebrow ridge and pointed ears at the top of the mount. Length 44.3mm, …

Medieval cast copper alloy decorative mount in the form of a conical sexfoil, attached by a copper alloy rivet (visible on the reverse) onto an octagonal backplate which apparently had a projection from each corner. Only one projection survives, it curves to the right and has four tansverse notches on its edge, and may also be broken. Length 31.08mm, width 23.74mm, thickness 9.12mm, thickness across projection 2.70mm, weight 12.88g. This is similar in style to medieval domed sheet copper alloy sexfoil strap mounts, dated in Egan & Pritchard 1991 ("Dress Accessories" HMSO) to c.1270-1400.

Medieval mount; Cast copper alloy openwork mount with settings for four stones. The settings are reminiscent of the ‘turrets’ on medieval annular brooches, suggesting a 13th/14th century date. The mount consists of a long, narrow triangle formed from thin bands of metal of rectangular cross-section. There is a small rivet at each corner, all of which appear to be of a more iron-rich metal than the main body of the mount, since they have a red-brown appearance while the mount has a green patina. There are tall, cylindrical settings at the apex of the triangle and in the centre of ea…

Early-medieval copper-alloy rectilinear mount, probably from horse harness. It has chip-carved gilded Style I decoration dating it to the early Anglo-Saxon period, 6th century AD. The mount is rectangular with a single rivet in the centre near one end. The other end of the mount is broken away suggesting that it was originally part of a larger object. The decoration is in a single panel which follows the rectangular shape of the mount. Medieval strap mount; Cast copper alloy mount in the shape of a crowned head, of probable 14th century date. The mount is cast with a tri-lobed crown, each lobe being in the form of a roughly triangular triple frond. There is a small cast point for the nose and incised lines indicate triangular eyes and a straight mouth. A single copper alloy rivet is still present, positioned in the centre of the forehead at the base of the crown. Early medieval mount; cast copper alloy triangular mount with inscribed decoration and gilding over all surfaces. The mount is of the Anglo-Saxon tradition and is most likely to be of 7th century date. It is sub-triangular in shape with a narrow strip extending up from the apex of the triangle. Early medieval mount; fragment of cast copper alloy mount of late Early Medieval date, probably 10th or 11th century. The mount is a curving, roughly lozenge-shaped piece with a rounded knop extending from one side and further protrusions to either side of that. It is decorated on one face with interlace patterns in low relief, reminiscent of Anglo-Scandinavian styles. The other face appears undecorated.
