An incomplete cast copper alloy Bow-and-fantail brooch of Roman date. The brooch is broken just above the bow resulting in the loss of the head, hinge and pin. All that survives is the lower bow, fantail and the remains of the catchplate. The lower bow is quite wide with a rounded D-shaped section. The break is very worn. A cast copper alloy brooch fragment or possibly a simple ring. The ring is circular, with a flattened circular section. It is worn, with a badly damaged surface with a mid brownish-green patina. Due to a lack of contextual evidence it is not possible to date this object, so a precise date for this object can not be guaranteed as it is rather fragmentary and undiagnostic. Copper alloy rings like this one have been used through-out history for everything from harness fittings to clothes fittings. However, it could be the remains of an annular brooch.
