A Roman plate brooch in the form of the sole of a shoe. The pits are intended to represented hobnails and there are possible traces of red enamel. The hinge and part of the pin also survive but the catchplate is broken.

A one piece brooch of early Colchester form. The side wings are plain. The spring has been displaced and the pin is missing. The upper part of the bow thickens into a flaring knop below which the bow is much narrower and in section becomes a flattened diamond shape. The catchplate is plain.

An almost complete crossbow brooch dating to the late 3rd century. The brooch, which has a white metal coating and a hinged pin, has a wide curving bow which in section is an elongated triangle. Adjacent to the catchplate is a raised collar with a hollow on each side of the bow adjacent. The back of the catchplate has double grooves at the foot and a single groove at the junction of the bow as well as two pairs of triangular facets. Part of one side wing is missing. There may have been a separate fitting attached to the projection on the apex. If so this is now missing.

The upper part of a bow brooch of Rosette type. The rosette, fantail, pin and catchplate are all missing. At the junction of the bow and the cylindrical housing for the spring is a transverse rib with decoration of punched dots. The cylindrical housing is decorated with finely-engraved radiating lines.

A Roman plate brooch of umbonate type. The pin and most of the catchplate on the concave reverse are missing. On the front one of the original four circumferential projections is missing. The decoration consists of two concentric circles of triangular recesses inlaid with blue enamel, which survives quite well. The central circular depression apparently had no inlay. The depth of the brooch is 6mm, the maximum depth is 10.5, and the original width was c25mm. The spring and pin are missing.

A cast copper alloy one-piece brooch of the La Tene I period recovered from the Thames foreshore. The brooch has a wide rounded bow with a central cast pointed oval motif. Part of the wire spring along with the pin has been replaced in iron. The iron pin is now missing. The catchplate is complete and from this the terminal emerges and returns to lie below the bow ending in a rounded terminal with a short rounded collared projection.
