An incomplete 17th-century clay pipe with intact bowl, together with part of the stem. Around the top of the bowl is an incomplete rouletted design of impressed squares. The pipe itself is undecorated. The top of the bowl does not run parallel with the stem, which is indicative of clay pipes of the 17th century. The bowl measures 17.17mm in diameter. The stem measures 8.74mm in diameter, with the off-set hole measuring 2.8mm. An illustrated example of a similar pipe bowl can be found in Crummy (1988, 48; ref. 2195).

The slightly corroded head from a cast copper-alloy Roman Colchester derivative brooch with a double pierced lug spring attachment. The bow curves through over ninety degrees and expands into the head which has the pair of perforations uppermost. The lower hole appears to retain the remnant of the iron axis bar, judging by the trace of orange corrosion product. The upper hole is now blocked with corrosion, but would have held the chord of the spring, both of which are now missing. The wings are situated internally above the lug. They are both small and stubby and triangular in shape, …

A slightly corroded single-looped sub-rectangular buckle of post-medieval date. The strap bar is narrowed and recessed; the frame protrudes slightly beyond the strap bar on either side. The bar is rectangular in cross-section. The iron pin has corroded in situ at one end. At the ends of the pin bar the frame is moulded, the knop divided from the rest of the frame by a groove. From the pin bar (W.: 29.75mm) the buckle narrows to a waist (W.: 27.55mm) before expanding to a maximum width at the outer edge. Below these is a pair of low ridged bands; there is punched and engraved feather-like decoration below. There is a logitudinal split in the object, more evident at the attachment end, testament to how it was constructed. The object has been squashed around its centre.

A worn and incomplete Roman cast disc brooch of 2nd-century date. This flat brooch has an annular body with circular open centre (Dia.: 6.2mm). At the compass points are four protrusions which have suffered differing levels of abrasion. On the lower surface on the two opposing and more complete protrusions are, respectively, the remnant of the catchplate and the perforated, semi-circular pin lug. Within the latter are the corroded remains of the axis bar and possibly the beginnings of an iron pin, the rest of which is now missing. The more complete protrusions are divided from the m…

A cast silver-gilt bar-mount from a belt or strap; the mount has central and end lobes. The mount is convex, with plain bars and end lobes, the latter perforated for rivets, one of which survives. The larger central lobe is decorated with cross-hatched incised diagonal lines. The mount can be paralleled with a number of excavated examples from London (Egan and Pritchard 1991, 213-214; refs. 1160, 1161) and elsewhere. This form of bar-mount tends to have been found in 14th-century contexts. A silver-gilt bar-mount from Churcham, Gloucestershire, was put through the Treasure process i…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object: probably a harness fitting of Roman date. At one end there is a flattened circular terminal with a thick raised border on its upper surface. Within the border there is a further raised concentric circle with a raised central dot. Between the raised elements there are recesses which may once have been inlaid; there are possible traces of red enamel within the concentric circle. The sides and reverse of the terminal are slightly convex. A thick circular section shaft extends from the centre of the reverse of the terminal. The shaft extends for c. 1…

A small discoidal cast lead object: probably a weight of post-medieval date. The base of the weight is slightly concave while the upper surface features a raised rim. Within the rim there appears to be moulded decoration within a low border. Unfortunately the detail is difficult to discern due to corrosion. It is probable that such a unifacially decorated object in lead would have acted as a small weight.

A fragment from a cast lead-alloy object of post-medieval date. The object has the appearance of a terminal with a circular cross-section. At on end is a slightly flared sub-circular terminal up to 9.35mm in diameter. This is rebated and it is unclear as it how it might have continued. On its underside is a circle of raised diagonal forming rope-like decoration. Below this is a moulded bird's head, somewhat reminiscent of Horus (the Egyptian falcon god). It is difficult to be certain whether the head is orientated longitudinally or not. On two opposing faces the head tapers to a point…
