Some of the inscription is visible: [...]VLI[...]E'LON[...]. The reverse shows an ornate shield with a sword in the first quarter; this depicts the arms of London. A four-disc lead cloth seal (the discs are joined by a strip, which has been folded, and the rivet has been pushed through the fourth disc and hammered to hold the seal in place). The second disc is stamped with the two conjoined shields of the Commonwealth, one with St George's cross, the other with the harp of Ireland, and the third disc has a shield having two shearmen's hooks over a teasel plant, with a chevron erminois - the arms of the Clothworkers' Company, who seem to have taken on a role in cloth sealing nationally in the 1650s. The seal dates to the Commonwealth period, 1650…

Identification by: Jim Halliday. Part of an impressed Alnage quality control/tax lead seal from a length of cloth, showing a crowned portcullis. The other part is missing but would most likely have had the impressed portrait of Queen Anne. The back is plain and unmarked. Dates to 1702-1714.

An incomplete cast lead cloth seal of post-medieval date. The seal is circular but has been damaged in antiquity obscuring its complete shape. One side is stamped with text though all that remains is SAY//1669 with three pellets below and surrounded by a beaded border. The other side is very worn and bears no sign of having been stamped. The metal is alight brownish-white colour and is worn. The seal is 12.5mm in diameter, 1.7mm thick and weighs 1.1g. A lead cloth seal of post-medieval date. The object is a two disc cloth seal with the two discs being pressed together. Both discs are worn and broken around the edges giving one the impression of being heart shaped. It is however probable that the seal would originally have been circular in plan. Due to the degree of wear no discernable markings remain. The metal is a mid whitish-brown colour and is worn. The seal is 30.2mm long, 26.1mm wide, 5.3mm thick and weighs 13.3g.

Lead cloth seal probably dating to between the late seventeenth and early nineteenth centuries. The seal comprises a large disk with a smaller one attached to one face. The seal is decorated on the face of the smaller disc with the moulded inital N and a pheon mark. On the reverse of the larger disk is the number 30 written in crudely incised (scored) lines. There is a slight textile imprint on one face of the larger disc, beneath the smaller one. The metal is light whitish-grey in colour. The object is slightly worn. It is similar to Egan, p.183, no. 234.

A lead cloth seal of post-restoration date. One face has the moulded decoration of a crown over a double rose, with the initials C and R to the sides - probably for Charles I. The reverse is blank. A folded strip of lead is attached which would have joined on to another circle of lead, but this has broken away. The metal is whitish grey in colour. Similar to Egan, p. 179, no. 181.
