An incomplete Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, dating from AD 60 - 120.
The object consists of the majority of the bow, head and wings. The catchplate, the pin and the spring are missing. The wings are circular in cross-section and are undecorated. The slot on the head of the brooch which would have housed the spring is rectilinear in shape. There is a single raised ridge which runs along the centre of the upper portion of the bow and onto the head of the brooch, terminating below the slot. The brooch has small flat wings with rounded ends. On the reverse of the wings,integral to the upper edge, is rectangular protrusion which curls backwards over the bowhead, tapering to a blunt broken end. An incomplete copper-alloy Trumpet brooch (Group A: Bayley and Butcher 2004, 160 ,fig.130) of Roman date, c.AD 75-150.
Only the bow re mains. The bow has a sub-circular cross section and both terminals end at a worn rounded break. The top of the bow is triangular in shape and opens out to two decorative central disks, which wraps round the back of the brooch. The lower bow is also sub triangular in shape, ending at a pointed broken terminal.

Description: An incomplete, silver penannular brooch of Early Medieval date that is divided into four fragments and is decorated with gold filigree inlay.
