An incomplete copper-alloy Roman Colchester derivative rear hook bow brooch. It is missing the spring, pin, catchplate and part of the foot due to old breaks. The wings are semi-cylindrical in form decorated on their front faces with transverse moulded grooves. At the centre of the head is an integrally cast rear facing hook that would have originally held in place the now missing spring. It has moulded transverse raised ribs on the wings, with the remains of a potential rear-hook at the top of the bow. The bow has a central moulded raised rib, but is corroded towards an old break. A fragment of a copper-alloy disc of Medieval date 8th-9th century. All that remains is a quarter of the disc, which has cruciform arms and a chip-carved counter-relief interlace is net-like and occasionally expands to form small triangles. The interlace is abstract, with no animal elements identifiable, but there is evidence of gilding. The reverse is undecorated and has corrosion. The catchplate and pin are missing. A fragment of a copper-alloy Ansate brooch dating to 700-1000AD.  All that remains is a flattened circular terminal with incised circular border that contains a cross-shaped motif. It is encrusted with iron corrosion, and to the reverse has the remains of an iron pin. A similar, more complete, example can be seen on PAS, see SF-5260B8. This ansate brooch is of Middle Anglo-Saxon date with close parallels noted from Ipswich (West, 1998: nos. 98.3-4).  Length: 14.76mm Width:13.30mm Weight: 2.28g

A complete cast copper-alloy brooch of probable Medieval date. The brooch consists of of a front plate, shaped as a crown, which has 5 cruciforms at the top. The bow is flat, with rectangular cross section, on the front face are two longitudinal grooves below which is a moulded transverse groove, which tapers into a triangular shape before terminating in an old break. An incomplete worn enamelled copper-alloy flat disc brooch dating to 80-250AD. A small disc, with the (now missing) pin mounted between two worn lugs. On the centre of the disc is a centrla reserved spot surrounded by a concave sided hexagon on whose cusps are small circles, and in the recesses are remains of blue enamel. A similar example can be seen in Mackreth, 2011, pg 108, plate 105, 11599 and 10656. Diameter: 17.03mm Weight: 1.47g

An incomplete Roman copper-alloy possible trumpet brooch dating to circa AD 75-175. All that remains is part of the bow, foot and catchplate. The foot is triangular in form, with a flat base, and a recessed triangle, which may have been enamelled. To the reverse are the remains of a catchplate. The wings are short and rectangular in shape and sub-circular in cross section.  The bow is circular in cross-section. There is no visible decoration. There are two concentric circles around the boss, and five triangules terminating in a circle, which are raised, and have a silvery colour.  Similar examples can be seen in Mackreth, 2011 pg 110, plate 109, 11588.
