An incomplete Roman copper-alloy Colchester Derivative (Polden Hill) brooch (type 4.a) dating to circa AD 80 - 120. The catch plate, foot, spring and pin are missing. The brooch head is hump-like, and slightly angular (comma shaped) in profile. At the rear of the head is an oval concave slot for the missing spring. The head has a pair of small, flat stumps of wings over a stumps of the chord hook, spring and pin, which would have been integrally cast. An incomplete and bent cast copper alloy Roman Initial T-shaped brooch, of Colchester derivative hinged pin type (Mackreth (2011) CD H) dating to the late 1st to early 2nd century AD. The wings are cylindrical with moulded lobes around each end and contain remains of an iron axis spindle which has corroded, expanded and broken the wings in places. A fragment of a copper-alloy late Iron Age brooch of a possible Kragenfibel rosette type (Mackreth, 2011, pg 28). It is very corroded, making typogology difficult. The wing shape suggests a coil spring, although missing, and the bow seems to have a seperate plate, which is mostly corroded away. It is decorated with longnitudinal lines. The reverse is flat, with a small D shaped bow. It appears similar to examples in Mackreth, 2011, pg 19, plate 16, 5799, 5807, 13755 Length: 28.86mm Width: 18.57mm Weight: 5.80g
