A Roman cast copper alloy headstud brooch. The bow is decorated with an incised geometric design running along its length. Below the decorated bow is a transverse, grooved collar. The stud is decorated with a circle divided into quarters by a simple cross design. There are two short wings either side of the stud, both decorated with two parallel vertical grooves. A head loop sits above the stud and wings. Part of the pin is missing.

Cast copper alloy brooch of Polden Hill of flat wind ends type, apparently reused as a finger nail cleaner. Flat sectioned bow decorated with parallel longitudinal grooves. There are also grooves across the two wings. The underside of these is hollow to accommodate the spring (now missing) and its ends are closed by round plate with holes through them for the pin axis. On the end of the bow is a hook which secured the pin. Catch plate missing, the sides of the foot have been hammered, forcing them together to form a channel on the underside of the bow. A slot has been cut into the end…

BOW; Broken near the head of the bow. The head widens to 15.5mm and `acts` as wings. The centre head of the bow is a small protrusion that may have been a hook. The reverse of the bow head, an arm reaches upwards to hold the spring in place. The decoration of the bow is a triangle and lozenge design, with the triangle containing red enamel, and the lozenge has traces of a light-blue coloured substance. SPRING; is in place. PATINA; Dark green patina.

BOW; broken towards the head. The head is 12.7mm wide with two raised lines at right angles to each other as decoration. There are three heavy horizontal ribs on the bow, then the bow is broken. The bow is slightly skewed. SPRING; there are two plates protruding from the back of the bow head which support the spring. The spring is in place, bit is incomplete.

BOW; only a small upper portion remain, with vertical ribbing as decoration. The head of the bow is quite square. A hook starts from the top of the bow and curls down, dividing the spring, then joining the bottom curl of the wings. WINGS; semi-cylindrical. The terminus of the wings missing. SRING; in place with a bar leading across the top, through the hook. A central axis is visible. PIN; tiny portion remains.

Plain head sharply bent back. Plain moulded waist-bead extends round back of brooch. Moulded ridge and groove decoration above and below waist-bead. Foot-knob has single groove running around. SHAPE: Oval. DECORATION: Gilded edges consisting of a ridge and a series of small triangles. Centre is indented, oval shape where the glass boss should be. Instead fragments of very dark green/brown glass, and a particle of clear glass. REVERSE: Traces of tinning. The catchplate is incomplete, the pin missing, and the spring is broken.

Brooch (frag) with spring mechanism housed behind shield-shaped terminal. The arched bow which rises from the front of the terminal, is decorated with a two row enamelled chequer-board pattern of yellow and green (?) rectangles set into two recessed channels. A row of beading decorates the top part of the terminal. Possibly Wirral brooch?
