A silver pin from a medieval brooch, probably of annular type. The pin is 27.6mm in length and bent. The shaft has a flattened and oval cross section and tapers to a rounded tip. There is a small collar at the loop which is decorated with punched annulets, although use wear has obscured these. The articulation loop has a flat cross section. The underside of the pin has a distinctive patch of corrosion running from the bend to the tip. This may relate to use, perhaps representing an area in regular prolonged contact with acidic organic surfaces such as skin or leather.

The finder notes that the metal has been tested by a hand-held device and was found to be silver gilt. Medieval annular brooches are usually dated to 1200-1350, but the use of silver gilt …
