A near complete but warped circular lead brooch. It is only missing its pin.
The brooch is circular in plan and would have been flat in cross section although the sheet has been warped giving it an uneven wavey appearance. There are two projections on its reverse which are all that survives of the pin mechanism. This includes a rectangular tab placed c.5mm in from the edge of the brooch that folds over 180 degrees to provide a rest for the pin and two projecting D-shaped tab placed at the opposite end of the brooch. These are each pierced by a hole filled with a lead axis bar. Tr…

A near complete cast Late Early Medieval lead alloy brooch only missing its pin.
The object is sub-circular with six triangular protrusions forming an edge and giving the brooch a star or six petalled flower shape shape. It has a small central semi-spherical solid boss. This is contained within two concentric circular borders which have been beaded by incised lines running across them. Outside of this border are three more concentric lines which curve to fill each triangular protrusion, forming arches with a central raised pellet dot inside. The reverse of the brooch is undecorated bu…

An incomplete lead alloy early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) brooch of uncertain form. The remaining fragment has a (now) sub-rectangular plate with a one raised lower end which may have arched into a bow, as the bend seems purposeful rather than the result of damage. The front of the brooch is decorated with a central raised, cone-shaped pellet and is surrounded by multiple small pellets arranged in three or four rows around the main pellet. On the reverse of the brooch are two raised triangular lugs, probably the lugs for a hinged pin.
Parallels have been difficult to come by - The decora…

An incomplete lead alloy brooch of Weetch type 13 and late early-medieval or early medieval date. It is unusual in that the flat-topped boss is decorated only with a single central pellet. The flattened outer rim of the brooch is decorated with two circumferential bands of raised pellets and a single solid linear band below the boss. The boss is hollow on the reverse of the brooch, which retains the catchplate and a single pierced lug for a pin; both of these seem (from the photo) to be parallel to the edge of the brooch.
Weetch Type 13 brooches date from the 11th century.

An incomplete lead alloy brooch or badge of probable medieval date. The brooch is decorated on the upper face with a King's head, crowned with hair and beard, within a circle of beads. Surrounding the circlet is a series of roundals each with a pellet in the centre, the whole arranged in a circle. On the underside are the remains of catch and bent pin. Although no direct comparisons could be found in the available literature, the style of the king's head is similar to others of medival date. Suggested date c. AD 1200-1600.

Late early-medieval lead alloy brooch, 38mm in diameter, 2mm thick (5mm thick at boss) and weighing 14.30g.
The object is sub-circular with six triangular protrusions forming an edge and giving the brooch a star shape. It has a small central semi-spherical solid boss. This is contained within two concentric circular beaded borders formed of joining raised dots. Outside of this, more double beaded lines curve to fill each triangular protrusion, forming arches with a central raised dot inside.
Outside the raised dots, each of the triangular protrusions has a circular hole, possibly dec…
