The top of the frame has a bevelled outer edge to either side, this combined with a flat base creates a low D-shaped cross-section. There is a circular cross-section constriction on one side for the pin and a rectangular recess on the opposite side that has as the pin rest. These two features divide the decoration on the frame into two sections; the left side has a ropework style motif comprised of three curving groves with pellet interiors that arch diagonally from one side of the frame to the other, separating each grove is an equally curving line of stamped annulars. A small gold annular brooch with pin still attached that dates to the 13th-14th century. The frame of the brooch is very small epically when compared to contemporary examples with an external diameter of 9mm, and an internal diameter of only 7.5mm. Nonetheless, the top edge of the brooch is still highly decorated with a series of moulded detailing consisting two raised collets at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock on the frame, both have a sub-triangular profile with a mounting for a stone or glass (both now missing) at its apex. At 9 o’clock is the constriction for the pin and at 3 o

Gold alloy, strip-bow brooch found bent in half with the decorated outer edge of the bow on the exterior. The gold content has been confirmed by scientific analysis.
Made from two pieces of gold sheet: one a tapered strip forming the bow (11.1mm at its widest point at the top/head end and 1.1mm thick), the other a short semi-circular piece at the head of the brooch hiding the coiled spring behind. This latter piece is joined to top of the bow by means of a small seam of solder on either side. The spring, now distorted, is made from two round gold wires drawn together from the ba…

This incomplete artefact weighs 1.22g. It has an asymmetrical ovoid shape, having one wider rounded end and tapering to a point at the other end, that curves over to one side. The shape could also be described as an asymmetrical falling water-droplet (tear-drop) shape. Overall the brooch measures 17.3mm x 13.1mm with a thickness of 2.2mm. The brooch has an aperture at the centre that vaguely mimics the shape of the external edge of the artefact.

Circular gold sheet enriched with filigree ornament, granulation and inlaid gems. The sheet is circular but is now bent back on itself along one side. The upper surface is decorated with a central circular setting made from an upright strip of gold surrounded by a collar of gold twisted wire. The setting contains a large dark red cabochon, possibly garnet or glass, with a conchoidal fracture to one side. Evenly spaced around the central setting are two small rods (2-3mm high), each wrapped 3-4 times in filigree wire; empty rivet holes suggest two similar rods have been lost. Around th…

Gold brooch. An elongated lentoid plate with reinforcing strips formed by the sharp double folding of its edges behind it, and with a pin seat formed by a vertically set cylinder textured to resemble a spring [pin lost]; at the other end a larger but similarly textured cylinder with an open side is set horizontally to serve as catch plate. The display face of the brooch bears remarkably fine floral decoration of twisted wires of two or three distinct gauges, and clustered pellets of at least two sizes, the largest along the outer edges being of 1.7mm diameter. The chevrons are interrupted only by a constricted seat for a collared cast gold pin.
