Gold brooch. An elongated lentoid plate with reinforcing strips formed by the sharp double folding of its edges behind it, and with a pin seat formed by a vertically set cylinder textured to resemble a spring [pin lost]; at the other end a larger but similarly textured cylinder with an open side is set horizontally to serve as catch plate. The brooch is broadly circular at the back plate with a triangular setting at the front face. The brooch has been divided in to six segments on the back plate which is formed from gold. Each segment contains a rivet at its centre which is circular. The rivets are to hold the alternating elements which comprise the design at the front face of the brooch. Gold; finder’s analysis suggests 22 carat. Brooch. Frame of a brooch of oval or rhomboid form. A thin cast moulded front of curvilinear floral design inhalf relief is attached to a flat back-plate, so the body of the brooch is actually hollow. Front and back are crimped together to provide a setting for an oval stone (now lost). The field of the display face has a slightly rough or stippled surface, so as to emphasise the decorative detail which it surrounds. Post medieval brooch; cast gold brooch of possible 16th century date. The brooch is a miniature ring of twisted gold wire sandwiched between two further rings of plain gold wire. There is further twisted wire forming a cross through the centre of the brooch, adorned with a gold pellet at the end of each arm and with a tiny ring of twisted wire in the centre. The back of the brooch has a fitting formed of a flat strip of gold which extends across the centre of the ring and is then curled up on itself at both ends to form loops.
