It is circular, a raised border on the outer circumference and approximately halfway along the diameter forms a section, inside which cells for enamel are formed by alternate high and low sections. On the raised parts there are traces of a blue enamel. The central section of the brooch would have been divided into six triangular sections, like wheel spokes, which would have also have been enamelled. Three of these remain. The head of the brooch comprises tubular wings which act as a double lug hinge mechanism. An axis bar remains fitted through the lug though is broken and worn to either end and from the central slot. The pin no longer remains.

The brooch is flat with a narrow D-shaped section and is in the form of a bird, possibly a cockerel, facing left.
Faint moulded lines decorate the upper surface denoting a hooked beak, small crest above the head, a pointed wing extending up and backwards from the shoulder of the bird and a thick curved tail from the back end. A small, rectangular projecting plate to the bottom of the brooch represents the feet of the bird.

An incomplete copper-alloy disc brooch of Roman date, c.AD 80 - 250. Mackreth 2011, British Plate Brooch, uncertain sub-type.
The brooch is circular with worn edges. The upper surface has a white-metal coating displaying file marks and is otherwise undecorated.
The remains of a hinge mechanism and catchplate are present at opposing points of the reverse which is otherwise flat. The pin no longer remains.
The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The brooch is 23.4mm in diameter, 6mm thick (with hinge), 1.4mm thick at the plate and weighs 3.8g.

A fragment of a copper alloy Roman brooch, a headstud type dating from AD 75 - 200. Only the head of the brooch survives and it is very corroded. It has plain wings with a tubular housing behind for the axis bar. The hinged pin is missing. There is a very worn integral headstud on the top of the bow. The lower bow is broken, so only two recessed cells for enamel survive. They appear to contain red and blue enamel. It is 16.6mm long, 11.9mm wide and 6.6mm thick. It weighs 3g. This brooch appears to fit into Mackreth's (2011) headstud group 4.

The brooch comprises a quatrefoil frame with a D-shaped section. The corner of each lobe displays an ovate rounded knop. One arch of the frame has a circular perforation through which a pin is fitted. The pin is formed of a thin piece of copper-alloy wire and is fitted through the frame by an open loop.
The metal has a dark brown/green patina and is worn. The object is 23.5mm long, 23.7mm wide, 1.4mm thick and weighs 2.1g.

The head is ovate with a single centrally positioned integral vertical lug to the reverse. No spring mechanism remains in situ though a partial spring was found with, but separate to, the brooch. The spring comprises a circular sectioned strip of wire, coiled to form three turns and extending into a partial loop at one end. Both terminals are broken and worn.

An incomplete copper alloy brooch of Roman date, c. AD 50-120. Colchester derivative, Mackreth type CD H 4.k, p.87, plate 57.
The brooch is comprised of head, wings and part of the bow; the foot, pin and catchplate are missing. The wings are short and tubular with a sub-circular cross section, the back is open revealing what little remains of the hinge mechanism. At the centre of the wings is a humped head, typical of the Colchester derivative (Dolphin) style. The head narrows to form the bow which tapers towards the foot and terminates with a break. An incomplete copper-alloy Trumpet brooch of Roman date, c. AD 75 - 175. Mackreth 2011, Standard Trumpet Type 1.2b4, Plate 80, no.14120 (hinged - not illustrated).
The head is ovate with a double lug hinge mechanism for a hinged pin. No axis bar or pin remains. The front of the head is decorated with scroll motifs expanding to either side of the integral bow.

A complete copper-alloy penannular brooch of Roman date, c. AD 50 - 200. Booth Type A8 (Fowler Type A3) with a plain, circular sectioned frame which expands towards the terminals. Both terminals are flattened knops with a single raised moulded collar.
A humped pin remains looped around the frame. The pin is a flat rectangular sheet where it loops around the frame and tapers to a circular section at the rounded tip.
The metal has a dark green patina and is in fair condition. The brooch is 30.3mm long, 27.9mm wide, 6.4mm in diameter at the terminals and 3.3mm diameter at the frame. Th…
