An incomplete gold jewellery element of unidentified function (see Discussion). The artefact comprises an elongated oval-shaped plate made from thin gold sheet, with integral attachment loops at either end. One loop retains a double-looped hinge fitting. One side of the plate is plain and generally flat, with some distortion. A complete gold Medieval lozenge shaped brooch dating from the 13th to 14th century date. The object consists on a lozenge frame which is elliptical in cross-section and undecorated. The pin is secured around the frame with a collared aspect, there is no indication of a recessed bar to accommodate it. The pin runs across the entire length of the frame and has a tapering rectangular form terminating in a pointed tip.

A miniature medieval brooch, formed of a wire ring with a recess for the pin articulation. The pin is intact, though slightly bent, and tapers towards its pointed end. The attachment loop is ribbed with four grooves and it has a collar decorated with three rows of circular punches.
The brooch is gold, and dates from the thirteenth or early fourteenth century. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
