An incomplete cast copper alloy knee brooch of Roman date, c. AD 150-250, corresponding to Mackreth's Continental knee brooch type 2a. A copper alloy brooch of Roman date, c.AD 50 - 200. The brooch is circular in plan with a raised outer border and central ring. The area between the border and the central ring is decorated with a ring of pellets, probably six in number - due to corrosion it is not clear. An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester Derivative brooch dating to the early Roman period (circa 43-100 AD). The wings of the brooch are plain and open-ended, the cylindrical casing retains fragments of the probable iron axis bar within. An off-centre rectangular opening in the wing cylinder allows for a now-missing, probably hinged, pin to be attached. The bow of the brooch is humped and rounded at the head and tapers towards the foot, suggesting a Dolphin type. Very little of the catchplate remains and the brooch is in relatively poor condition all over, meaning any decoration i…

A complete copper alloy annular buckle or brooch of probable medieval date (c. 1200 -1400 AD) The frame is distorted into an elliptical shape but the reach of the apparently intact pin suggests it was originally circular. The frame has a flattened elliptical section and constriction to retain the pin (Egan and Pritchard suggest that frames with constrictions for the pin are considered to be brooches, rather than buckles. Egan, G. and Pritchard, F., 2002 Dress Accessories,) The pin is flat and slightly tapering, and curled around the frame. Diameter is 18 mm, length of pin 16.1 m…
