Copper alloy disc brooch. A large plain disc with the stub of a small integrally cast loop at its edge; the loop coincides with the position of long paired U-shaped lugs on the back which retained a hinged pin; the stub of a small catch plate lies at the opposite edge of the plate. The lack of rust stains – a diagnostic trait for a brooch fastened with an iron pin – could suggest a Roman date, as might the length of the lugs at the pin seat [as discussed in the PAS Guide to brooches], though the disc form is more usually regarded as Anglo-Saxon. Cast sub-rectangular plate with opposed rounded lugs or lappets below it, and with two notches cut into one of its longer sides to give a localised saw-toothed effect; the lower bow tapers to a cross-shaped or knopped terminal. Incomplete Copper Alloy object. Possibly a brooch or a clasp. The object has a flat leaf like shape, which appears to be broken at its pointed end; there is a small circular perforation at its base on its obverse side. The base tapers into a ‘stalk’ which then curls back on itself. The reverse of the object is plain and undecorated, but the perforation is clear. The object has a green and brown patina and has a rough and uneven texture. The object weighs 6.3g and is 51.97mm length and 22.70mm in width tapering to 12.41mm at its pointed end. No full diameter survives, however the radius measures 17.4mm which would suggest a diameter of 34.8mm if this was indeed a circular artefact. The edge is serrated, each projection having a width of c.1.6mm, some segments seem to be missing and others reduced in length or bent over suggesting partial damage to the edge.
