A Post-Medieval silver brooch; consisting of a slightly asymmetrical heart-shaped frame, d-shaped in section and separate pin, sub-rectangular in section. The pin is bent just below the point of attachment. A small crown rests above the heart, with either side attached to the apex of the heart's 'lobes'. A small gap exists between the bottom of the crown and the valley between the 'lobes' of the heart. On the reve…

Sheet copper alloy brooch in the form of a violin with a pressed front plate and a flat back plate so that it is hollow inside. There is a hinge on the back plate which still retains its spindle which would have held the pin. The pin would have been clasped at the opposite end, at the base of the violin, where there is now just an attachment hole, 2 mm in diameter, for the clasp, so that the brooch could be pinned to clothing. Similar examples of brooches in the form of a violin in silver and gold can be found on the internet, and are dated from the Victorian period.

Copper alloy brooch. Cast brooch in the form of a flower, floret or spray with five narrow leaves or buds springing from a stalk; a central round setting of diameter 4mm is now empty. The flat back retains paired lugs for a hinged pin, and the back of the stalk is grooved where a catch plate has been lost. The apparent respect dimensions to whole units of the metric system may suggest manufacture after 1800, and possibly a continental origin for the piece. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1820-1880. Length: 25.7mm, Width: 25.7mm, Thickness: 2mm. Weight: 3.16gms.

A probable Post Medieval copper alloy brooch, dating to the 18th century. The object is formed of a disc with traces of the catchplate and hinge on the reverse. The outer face is decorated with a sexfoil, probably representing a flower. The object is very worn and covered in a mid-light green patina, making it difficult to discern the features clearly. Cast plate comprising a series of linked discs, possibly each with tiny central aperture, with a curved element between two projecting discs, possibly a decorative swag if this identification is sustained.
