Copper alloy possible brooch. Two large [length 22.6mm] oval chain links and a central round link [diameter 23.3mm], all of 4.5mm diameter, passed through each other and brazed together to form a knot-like configuration which retains traces of gilding. It is assumed a separate pin has been lost. The object is unusually light, and the individual links might be hollow components which would explain this odd feature. This object is taken to be one of a series of eccentric homemade brooches which were apparently made by apprentices working in a craft rather than an industrial tradition. An…

Cast copper alloy Post Medieval brooch, c.AD 1700-1800.
This brooch is made from a disc-shaped, domed plate edged by a border of pellets. The central design is made with three lines, one straight central line flanked by two arching lines that follow the round edge of the dome; this appears to form a globe or sphere shape.
The reverse of the brooch has a spring and catch mechanism, which has been unfortunately squashed during deposition. The brooch is uusually small and its original purpose is unclear.
