A complete silver annular brooch. The brooch is complete although twisted and folded, and appears to have been cut or stamped from a blank. It is made from thin silver, approximately 0.5mm thick, and 6mm wide. The hole for the pin has been crudely punched from the back of the brooch, the end of the pin is looped through this to secure it. The pin is pointed at the termination. The brooch is plain apart from a mark punched into the back that may be a hallmark or initials - shown in the inset of the image. It looks like a very elaborate I or L, and H, or possibly W and D. …

Treasure Case 2023 T213 A post-medieval silver annular brooch dating to c.1600-1700. The brooch is now in three pieces. The pin shaft is missing. It consists of a circular convex frame with rounded exterior surfaces set at an oblique angle. The reverse is concave. Post-medieval silver annular brooch, circular, but now distorted to an oval, 28 x 16mm. Original diameter c. 24mm. The 5.5mm-wide hoop, probably stamped out of a larger sheet, is bevelled or angled and pierced by a circular hole for the pin. Both edges are sharp, the outer slightly thickened, the inner with a ridge around on the front and hollowed on the reverse. The pin is of sub-triangular section and appears to have made from drawn wire, the tip cut to a point. Weighing 2.20g. A fragment of a post-medieval silver brooch, comprising the upper part of the frame in the shape of a crowned heart (c. 1600-1750). The upper part of the heart survives along with the crown, which is single domed with a central jewel. There are two apertures above the band of the crown which is decorated with two subtle ornaments.  No maker’s mark survives. A complete cast silver annular brooch dating to the post Medieval period (c. AD 1500-1700), 25mm in diameter. The frame is 5.4mm wide, convex and undecorated, with a concave reverse and an internal diameter of 15mm. The pin is 20.9mm in length and made from a pointed strip of metal which is curled around a recessed bar in the frame. There is a break in the frame near this pin articulation. A probably stamped openwork discoid brooch with a plain rounded concavo-convex central boss, and with a flat broad border with multiple symmetrically disposed lobes around its edge and triangular cut-outs between boss and edge; tint [diameter 1.4mm] pellets formerly capped each lobe, though over half are losrt. The reverse retains a tiny stub from a catch plate or pin seat, otherwise lost.
