An incomplete Medieval silver annular brooch with decorative twisted (cable pattern) frame, dating to c. AD 1200-1400. The frame is slightly bent. Dimensions: Diameter: 24.6mm; thickness: 1.8mm; weight: 1.58g.

An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy gilded brooch made from a Medieval sterling bust jetton, itself based on a silver penny of Edward I (1272 - 1307), dating to c. AD 1280-1345.
The jetton has been converted into a brooch through the attachment of a fastener, and the addition of gilding, which covers the full face of the obverse and reverse. The attachment fastening, consisting of a horizontal pin (now broken due to an old break) and a vertical lug, has been applied via solder to the obverse of the coin.
Obverse (with brooch fittings): Crowned bust (some deta…

The copper alloy frame is circular in plan and D-shaped in section with six empty collets. Each collet comprises an annular cell, the original settings of which are missing. Some of the collets are missing their tops and edges with worn breaks. There is a narrowed constriction between two collets for the pin, which is present but separate. The reverse is undecorated but gilding can still be seen on the inside of the frame and…

An incomplete Medieval copper alloy annular or ring brooch, dating to c AD1200 - 1450. There is a break at the point where there would have been the constriction for the pin. At some point this broke away, together with the pin and probably a little of the hoop on both sides. The ring is rectangular in section, plain on one side, decorated on the front with a line of closely packed small pellets enclosed within a low raised border. It is dark green in colour.

It has a constriction for the pin, still attached , wrapped around it but with a groove on what appears to be the underside. The hoop is broadly oval in section but with the outer surface decorated with seven moulded facets, some made to appear rolled back on themselves. An eighth facet appears as two rolled back facets confronting, with the pin restriction between. The pin is flat and tapers to a point, although with slight damage on one side of the tip. A complete but slightly damaged silver gilt annular brooch, dating to c. AD 1200-1400. It is circular with a sub triangular section. The pin is D shaped in section, held in a constriction on the hoop around which the pin is wrapped. There is a narrow beaded collar on the pin, just below the attachment end, from which it tapers to a point and rests on the opposite side of the hoop. On the underside of the hoop, separated by the width of the hoop, are attached two concentric rings of beaded wire which just show on either side from front of the brooch. The band is wedge-shaped in section with a ring of small conjoined pellets on the upper surface and a legend on the outer face which reads, ‘IE SVI FLVR D[E] BO[N]’, meaning “I am a flower of good”. This is possibly a message from the giver of the brooch to its wearer. The find is in fine condition and the pin still moves freely within the constriction.

An incomplete Medieval copper alloy open frame brooch dating to c AD 1200 - 1400. A circular or annular flat ring with six equally spaced outwardly projecting pointed knops translates into a hexagonal opening on the inside of the frame. Between each knop on the outer or upper face is a collet with a white paste remaining within. At the base of each of the knops are equal armed cruciform cells which may have held enamel. Adjacent to each of these cruciform cells, in between each of the collets (except for the pinhole), is a smaller collet which may have been for stones or similar. The …

A Medieval copper alloy annular brooch, dating to c. AD 1200-1400. The brooch consists of a circular frame, with four irregularly placed expansions. The expansion at 12 o'clock is recessed at its centre to accommodate a lost pin, however the other three expansions are offset from the two axes. The frame has a flat reverse and a bevelled exterior edge; the expanded sections appear sub-triangular in cross section, with the other areas appearing either shallowly so, or sub-rectangular.

A Medieval copper alloy annular brooch, probably dating to c. AD 1200-1400. The brooch consists of a sub-circular frame with a constriction at 12 o'clock to accommodate a lost pin pin. On the opposite side of the frame, on the longitudinal axis, is a lip serving as a pin rest. On the opposite, transverse, axis is a pair of projecting collets retaining white cement-like material, but any setting has been lost. Description: A Medieval silver annular brooch. The brooch is symmetrical along its longitudinal axis, divided by a constriction for the pin at one side and a narrow elliptical boss at the other end. The latter has a short groove at its apex. Either side of the frame is decorated with three raised collects positioned equidistantly, two of these retain a translucent pink (rose quartz?) cabochon setting, whilst two more retain vestigial remains of a white cement. The areas between the collets are cast into raised bosses and stippled with punched annulets. Those to either side of the smal…

A copper-alloy medieval brooch dating to the period c.AD 1200-1350. The brooch is circular in plan and D-shaped in cross-section. Decoration comprises a series of circular recesses (or 'blind holes') around the band, two of which still hold a light green material which is probably the remains of enamel. The reverse is undecorated, but exhibits three transverse projections spaced evenly on one side of the ring. There is a green patina on the surface and traces of gilding are present on the reverse.

A Medieval copper alloy annular brooch, dating to AD 1200-1350. The brooch consists of a cast annular frame, with six projecting collets spaced equidistantly around the frame. The exterior edge of the frame is moulded into a series of trapezoidal projections, alternating with the collets. Each of these has two oblique grooves on the outside edge, creating a V-shape. A Medieval copper alloy annular brooch, probably dating to AD 1200-1400. The brooch consists of a lozengiform frame, flate in cross section and with a constriction at one of the angles to hold a pin. The frame is decorated with a central band of moulded pellets left reserved against a recessed chanel. The point of the corner opposite the constriction has been lost, it is possible that the constriction was originally an aperture and that a point has been lost from this corner too, making it likely to be deliberate.
