An incomplete cast copper alloy bow brooch of early Anglo-Saxon date, c. AD 420-550. The surviving fragment is sub-rectangular when viewed from the front, tapering slightly from the head to the foot. The head has all edges broken and no decoration surviving; it has a single vertical pin bar lug on the reverse which is trapezoidal when the brooch is viewed from the side. The bow is the same width as the surviving area of the headplate. It is D-shaped in side view and largely D-shaped in cross-section. At the top and bottom are short rectangular-section areas which are decorated w…

Fragment consisting of the bow and upper foot from a copper-alloy cruciform brooch of probable 6th century date (500-550 AD). The fragment is broadly sub-rectangular in shape, with two projecting wings (lappets) at the top of the foot making it an upside down T-shape. In cross-section the brooch is broadly sub-rectangular. The upper part of the bow is broken; this edge is unpatinated, suggesting a recent break. The head of the brooch is lost. The bow has a distinct curve to its profile; in the centre the cross-section is D-shaped, as the bow swells at the mid-ridge. There is a hint…

A fragment of cast copper-alloy early Anglo-Saxon brooch, probably a cruciform brooch, dating to c. 450-550 AD The fragment consists of the headplate and part of the bow only. The headplate is rectangular, with a square central panel and slightly lower wings, only one of which survives in good condition. The top and one side knob survive, both much abraded. They are integrally cast with the headplate and are a low D shape in cross-section. The side knob is on the observer's right; it has a waist and a ridge below the waist. The top knob probably was originally similar. On the reverse …
