A copper alloy zoomorphic terminal from an early Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch of 'Klapperschmuck' (literally 'rattle-jewellery) type. The object has a great likeness to a standard early narrow cruciform-brooch horse-head terminal (c. 430 - 480 AD) but the end of the horse's nose is unusual. From above, the tip of the terminal is parallel-sided with a central and two lateral raised ribs. In side view this part of the object is circular in section and is apparently pierced transversely by a 2mm diameter hole which is still filled with soil. Behind the end of the nose is a slightly raise…

By Elisabeth Okasha, University College Cork Description The object is complete. It is a circular silver disc of diameter 27-30 mm and thickness < 1 mm. Although described as a 'brooch' there is now no sign of any fitting or fastening. The disc is complete and largely undamaged although there is some discolouring on both face and back. The back of the disc is plain but contains some scratches. The face of the disc contains a central, equal-armed cross; it has a circle in the middle containing a pellet and each arm meets the circular margin on a tri-partite base. The margin is…

Part of the bow and foot of a copper alloy brooch of early Anglo-Saxon date. The bow is flattened with a slightly convex upper surface and a small flat panel above and below. The flat panel of the foot survives, with transverse groove decoration; there is a stub of catchplate on the reverse. Old breaks. The object is 26mm long, 7mm wide, 5mm thick and weighs 2.34g. Not enough survives to determine whether the brooch was of cruciform type (with a horse's head terminal) or a small-long (with another form of terminal). It dates to the mid 5th to mid 6th century.

Terminal from an early Anglo-Saxon florid cruciform brooch foot. The brooch is decorated with chip-carved Style I animals; the hip and eyes of an animal can be seen right next to each other. There is also stamped decoration along the sides of the brooch. The stamps and some other areas of the brooch show traces of gilding but this has been lost from most of the surface. Beyond the triangular panel of Style I, the extreme end of the foot is in the form of a short rectangular panel. Recorded from an illustration on an identification record from 1992.
