Fragment of a copper alloy penannular Celtic-style brooch dating to the late 8th or 9th century AD (750-850AD).The terminal is sub-triangular in plan tapering to a broken edge at the start of the hoop. The upper surface of the terminal has relief decoration comprising a sub-triangular border made up of three parallel lines.  At two of the angles there is a circular cell with a smaller circular cell at the centre. The mount comprises a gold baseplate, slightly crumpled, cut to a curved tapering form with a straight wide end, to fit the recessed cell of a (now missing) gilt bronze or silver penannular or pseudo-penannular brooch. The outer face of the baseplate is decorated with a spherical blue glass bead set in a gold collar, and a pattern of S- and Z-scrolls delineated by beaded wire (filigree) and other motifs (C-scrolls with central scrolled stems) within a plain beaded wire border.
