Treasure case 2020 T414 Description: Two silver fragments of an early medieval openwork disc brooch dating to c.AD 800-900. The design of the fragments is consistent with the Trewhiddle-style. Fragment 1: The larger of the two fragments and is in the form of a teardrop divided into two fields: the lower being drop-shaped and the above a crescent-shape. The base of the teardrop and the top of the teardrop each sprout a separate tendril in the same direction with space between the two, which indicates the overall openwork design of the brooch. Fragment of a cast copper-alloy Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch from the late 5th or 6th century AD. The fragment is a zoomorphic terminal from the foot of the brooch (pictured upside down). The object has expanded circular nostrils above the spatulate extension, which is decorated with a transverse groove above a row of stamp marks. The stamps appear to be annulets, but are largely obscured by soil. Each nostril has a central circular dot. Above the nostrils is the broken stub of the nose of the animal. Complete copper-alloy penannular brooch of Type H. Two thirds of the arms are flat and decorated with punched dots around the edges and a pair of punched ring and dots at each terminal. There is a further ring and dot further back on each of the arms. The section which supports the pin is circular in section and is decorated towards the arms with a segment of close grooves. The pin is complete, circular in section and attached to the brooch by a flattened loop with grooves.
