A cast copper alloy figurine, in the shape of a bird. The figurine appears to have broken off from a much larger object as it has a flat, corroded base. It is possibly that this bird was positioned on the end of something like a shaft as a decorative terminal. The bird has its wings out stretched. The metal is extremely corroded and pitted, and is a mid reddish-brown colour. It does not appear to be Roman in date ad does not comfortable fit into the medieval or post-medieval periods, so therefore it remains undated.

Copper alloy circular bead of unknown date. The bead has a D-shaped cross section with a flat interior. The bead appears to have been made by rolling a thick sheet of copper alloy around a central solid shape while the metal was still plastic, and then sealing the ends of the sheet together. A deep recess is visible where the two ends of the sheet meet. The bead measures 7.7mm in internal diameter, and 15.5 in external diameter. It is 4.1mm thick. The bead weighs 5.4 grams. Simple copper alloy beads are hard to date accurately as they were used widely from the Bronze Age onwards, becom…

A complete cast copper alloy object, possibly a stamp. Date unknown. Length: 36.3mm; width: 5.2mm and 5.2mm thick. Weight: 6.73g. The central part of the object is square in cross-section and measures 5.2mm x 5.2mm. Two of the faces taper and splay slightly to form a flat end which measures 6.7mm x 1.7mm. This flat end is burred over slightly as if it might have been hammered. Close to the opposite end the corners of the square shape become rounded and at the end there is a deeply indented cross-shape. It is possible that the object is a stamping tool. A patina has not survive…

An irregular fragment of an unknown object / artefact of unknown date. The fragment is regular in plan comprising a relatively shallow sub-rectangular plate which is broken at one edge. From the opposite end an integrally cast spike extends at an angle of 90° from the upper plate. This spike tapers along its length terminating in a rounded point. The upper plate has a similarly shaped hollow (U shaped) recess the function of which is unknown due to its fragmentary nature. The artefacts measures 46.3mm length, 17.8mm width, is a maximum of 29.5mm thick (and minimum of 4.4mm), and weigh…

Or, possibly two half-faces, with noses and beards towards the outside of the object. Reverse decoration appears to consist of concentric curving lines with pellets towards the ends, perhaps a representation of foliage. Thickness 2.5mm Weight 1.43g (0.045 troy oz/22.2 grains). Suggestions that it could be a gaming piece, co…
