A large lead weight of uncertain date. This artefact weighs 101.98g (c.3.60oz) is hemispherical in shape with a diameter of 38.3mm and depth of 19.1mm. The change in angle between the domed and flat surfaces is gently rounded edge. None of the surfaces show any obvious decoration. However, at the approximate centre of the flat surface there is the remains of an iron component. This component appears to be a very worn break, which is level with the lead surface. This is likely to be the remains of a suspension loop or hook. The original presence of a suspension attachment is suggestive…

A modern copy of a North-Eastern 'Ferriby' stater. This example is made out of lead. The obverse depicts a wreath made of two lines of diagonal lines. Next to this are two pellets. A deep groove runs across the coin adjacent to the lines. The reverse depicts a rather clumsy attempt at a horse left. This revese of this coin is almost identical to that on an apparently unfinished copy found several miles to the north-west in Stainton by Langworth: LIN-B89EFD. Further lead alloy objects bearing Iron Age coin motifs are also known in the region:LIN-B8D9B9, LIN-B8C44E, LIN-B89EFD, NLM-7…

A modern copy / forgery of an Iron Age Coin. The coin has been analysed by the Conservation Department at Birmingham Museums who have found it is made of a 100% tin - as this has not been alloyed with anything else - a modern 'copy' seems to be the only reasonable and therefore most likely explanation. As the findspot seems genuine its discovery cannot be fully explained The coin has been shown to Ian Leins (Curator British Museum), Edward Besley (NGMW - Cardiff), Dr David Symons (Birmingham Museums) and Dr Philip de Jersey (formerly of Oxford Universities Celtic Coin Index - now Gu…

An Iron Age 'silver' stater, a cross between the Abingdon Zoo / Chievely chicken type, ABC 1001 and 1010. There is some uncertainess about this coin because of its weight, at 7.17g it is very heavy compared with coins of the same date which are usually c. 1.0g, plus the execution is very crude, almost appearing to have solder droplets in places. This coin maybe a lead alloy, and as it is very heavy, and "marks paper!" (coin dealer, pers. comm), it could well be a modern forgery.

Bronze unit, some wear and some recent damage on the edge. Identifiable as VA 154-3 "Kentish uncertain", Hobbs 2484-2486 "uninscribed south-eastern bronze". Around 35 are listed on CCI database (http://www.writer2001.com/cciwriter2001/BritishLists/Cantii/Cantii_59.htm), the majority of located ones being from Kent and two from Essex (Tilbury, Maldon) - thus this eg is the farthest north found as yet.
