It has been folded in half so only the reverse is visible. It is 19.9mm long, 9.4mm wide and 1.1mm thick. It weighs 0.52gm.

A Medieval silver penny of Stephen, 'lozenge fleury and annulets' type, BMC IV, struck on a square flan with chamfered corners. The coin is incomplete, with a piece of the flan missing and only one or two letters legible. The two known mints of this issue are Lincoln and Nottingham. Silver coin. Penny, Possibly of Stephen (1135-1154), possibly part of the 'Ornamented' series (cf. Spink 2004 , page 141, no. 1313). Obverse description: Bust right, angular arched crown with fleurs at tips, sceptre or lance right; a colon occurs clearly in legend, which is otherwise lost. Reverse description: Cross fleury with lys pointing inward in each angle; the appearance of an eight-arched tressure around the cross motif. Initial cross potent. Reverse inscription: +BA[---]?N:L[---] Diameter: 17.5mm, Weight:1.17gms.
