Spanish Reals are not uncommon finds as they were accepted as legal tender during the reign of Mary I (AD 1553 - AD 1558), around the time of her marriage to Philip of Spain. They were revoked as legal tender in AD 1561 but continued in circulation into the 17th Century AD.

This coin is similar to one from the Isle of Wight (PAS ref. IOW-F28953). The discussion indicates that this type of coin carried on being produced in the names of Ferdinand and Isabella well into the middle of the 16th century.
