A silver denarius of Caracalla dating to AD 201 (Reece period 10). PART MAX PONT TR P IIII reverse type depicting two seated captives flanking a trophy. Mint of Rome. RIC IV, p. 220, no. 54a. This coin has a small semi-circular cut-out at 12 o'clock on the obverse. It may be that this is a worn piercing for suspension. However, semi-circular cut-outs are a feature of several coins from the same deposit suggesting that it may have a votive significance.
