Cast white metal strap end with rounded end and straight 'broken' side, which appears to be a cast copy of a broken Anglo-Scandinavian strap end. The back of the strap end has lumps of red and green corrosion product, which suggests it has been in the soil for at least 50 years, and a central raised lump which is not a rivet but copper alloy corrosion. The metal is very brittle and powders, unlike silver, and it looks to be a matt white metal alloy which would also explain the colour of the corrosion. Medieval, 14th Century, white metal, (lead or tin alloy), strap end with openwork pelta shaped front and an integrally cast loop c.AD1300-1450. Cast in one piece using a three part mould, the openwork decoration is formed of two opposing teardrop shapes that curl round and terminate in the rivet holes, with rivets in situ. The front face of the strap end where the rivets are situated is piched inwards to create a tight grip on the leather strap.
