A fragment of a Medieval silver short cross penny of Richard I (1189-1199) or John (1199-1216), minted by Goldwine at Canterbury. Class 3-5c (not 5a), 1190-1210 (North 1994: 220-221, refs: 967-971). Treasure case 2014 T779. The centre of the coin has been removed and modified as a brooch. Obverse: [ ]NRICVS R[ ]; [Crowned bust facing] Reverse: + (cross pattée) GOLDW[ ]N·C; [Voided short cross with a quatrefoil in each quadrant] 19.8mm (diameter). Weight: 0.68g. DA=12:7.
