Roman copper alloy plain hinged bow brooch, 26mm long, 22mm wide and 7mm deep. The object is in fair condition with a brown patina and weighs 2.98grams. The brooch has circular sectioned solid wings which sit above the bow at an angle and form a central rectangualr void, presumambly where the hinge fitted. The bow is triangular in section and is slightly curved. There is no sign of decoration on the brooch and no catchplate or pin present.

One side shows decoration of horizontal recesses flanking a small ridge. The bow is sub rectangular in section and is decorated with two vertical ridges which appear to run its length. The catchplate which is intact is distinctive, having a sub rectangular form. It has a gently sloping upper edge which merges into the bow and its base protrudes straight out for 5mm before its 'catch' slopes gently outwards. Given this form I would say it is from a trumpet or derivitive brooch.

The brooch is in fair condition and weighs 7.06grams. The brooch is complete except for a catchplate and pin. It has an intact spring of 7 coils contained within its wings and has a sub rectangular bow which is decorated with two lines of stamped dots forming a ribbon down its length. It had an open catchplate, the start of which can just be seen where it has broken.

A Roman copper alloy trumpet brooch dated between AD 75-175.The spring cover terminates in a hook which would have served to hold the spring and The bow is fragmentary and only the spring cover and bow remain. The foot, catch-plate and pin are absent. The bow is faceted in section, decorated as with moulded linear grooves. The bow bulges at the top of the bow curve, tapering towards the foot. It is 28.19 mm long, 14.84 mm wide, 12.60 mm thick and weighing 6.74 grams.
