An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (Mackreth Group 5, Western Group, flat wing ends), Mackreth 2011, 5.a1. The wings are semi-cylindrical with perforated caps at the terminals holding the axis bar. This bar holds the spring and the incomplete pin. The bar is broken, and the spring and pin are disarticulated, but the elements appear to be held together with soil. The bow is semi-circular in section and is decorated with a central ridge of small raised squares which terminates in a chevron formed of two raised diagonal lines. below this point the brooch is damaged but the start of the catchplate can be seen.

The brooch has a rectangular head with the remains of a hinged pin in the centre. It has a rectangular sectioned bow which is decorated with a raised circle at its shoulder. Below this is a line of raised circles which is flanked by two lines of red enamel. The brooch is quite worn but appears to have further decoration running down the sides and it is missing its pin and catchplate.
