Coiled spring, chain loop extinct, 2 ends spring met and held by copper alloy catch. Simple trumpet head decorated with 1 incised line around edge. Waisted to bow, flaring out to rounded, slightly bulbous section above acanthus. Waisting under acanthus , slight tapering top distil section, relatively large bulbous foot with 1 incised line around and flat base. Catchplate extant, pin extinct. Mottled patina, bronze disease.

Coiled spring top front bow. Diminishing bow. D shaped profile. Plano convex bow section. Catchplate displaced, in situ damage, inverted catchplate-turned 90 degrees in line with face bow. Spring concreted with traces ferric corrosion (now stabilised). Bow decorated with cast medial rib. Stable olive green-grey patina.

A near complete Roman dragonesque brooch dating from AD 75 - 175. Only the pin is missing. Yellow and red enamel infill lozenges and triangles arranged in diagonal parallel lines fill the central body panel. Signoid (stylised, flourishing ends) panel at each side of central section. Interstices infilled with red enamel. The chin of one terminal is joined to the body. There is no enamelling on the terminal, just an open hole between the snout and ears. There is a similar but complete hole on the other terminal. The brooch has a smooth green patina. It is 46.8mm long, 22.7mm wide and 4.…
