A cast copper-alloy incomplete Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 4.d sub group, flat wing ends type). At the head is one of the characteristic wing tip plate extensions, pierced to take the axis bar; one has been abraded through. The rearward facing lug which protrudes from the centre of the head would have held the chord of the spring mechanism. A cast copper-alloy Roman T-shaped brooch of initial type dated to later 1st to mid-2nd century AD. The brooch survives quite well, only having suffered some post-depositional damage and the loss of its pin. The head has tubular wings, each with a terminal ridge. There is a further ridge either side of the wide head. The axis bar is largely obscured by the wings, but would appear to be made from iron judging by orange corrosion product both at the wing terminals and within the pin slot. The pin is missing. Two joining fragments, cast copper-alloy bow brooch;T-shaped type. Wide, tubular wings enclosing iron axis bar, only traces of which now survive. The ends of each wing are decorated at the front only with a short vertical moulding, with grooves at either side. There is a transverse moulding at the junction of the wings and bow on either side. The upper bow is sub-triangular in section, tapering in to a very narrow, pointed foot. Deep catchplate, the upper edges of which is damaged. Hinged pin missing. Slightly mottled, mid-green patina.

Cast copper-alloy Trumpet-derivative brooch. The trumpet head has an engraved line around the outer edge, and a small head loop; now broken. The short upper bow is rectangular-sectioned and expands into a sub-square disc with a raised central circular moulding which has a copper-alloy pellet at centre and the recess around it is infilled with red enamel. At the centre is a hole, with two concentric circles around it, with the recessed area between infilled with pale blue enamel, with a narrow central band of ?red enamel. Roman; mid-1st century (40-50 AD). Copper-alloy large Strip-bow brooch (Hull Type 58). The straight-sided rectangular-sectioned slightly curving bow tapers elegantly to a plain foot. The bow has longitudinal grooves at either edge which terminate at the head in a pointed end. The grooves create a slight ridge down the centre of the bow, which accentuates as the bow narrows. Description: A complete silver Medieval annular brooch dating to the 13th/ 14th century. The frame is circular in shape and in cross-section, and is plain and without decoration. The surface of the metal is entirely smooth and there is a constriction for the pin at one point. The pin has a brambled spherical boss (with punched annulet decoration) beneath its attachment loop, which is complete and without a join and 2.99mm wide. A fragment of a medieval (1250-1350) silver-gilt annular brooch consisting of an incomplete sexfoil boss and a section of frame soldered to the reverse. The boss is in the form of a six petalled flower with a central pellet, each pellet and the centre being concave to the front (and convex to the reverse). Two adjacent petals are damaged by the same curving break, diagonally across each; the break looks old. The front of the boss has a thick layer of gilding.
