A fragment of a cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth Group 4, flat wing ends type), Mackreth 2011, 4.l, Plate 48. The wings are semi-cylindrical with wing caps. Each cap has a central perforation which supports a copper alloy axis bar. Around the axis bar the spring is coiled, forming coils which are so corroded it is difficult to count them. From the spring the pin extends, however the pin is missing on this example. An incomplete copper-alloy zoomorphic plate brooch of Roman date. The brooch is in the form of a dog that is flat, slightly bent and missing its neck and head due to old breaks. It has a sub-triangular shaped body with narrow hind leg and thin tail that curves slightly forwards above the hind end of the animal. The front leg is thin and extends forwards to give the impression that the animal is running. Wings have capped terminals with holes to support the axis bar. At the top of the bow there is a small hook. The spring is missing, however portions of the axis bar remains in the wing terminal holes. The bow is complete with a high relief design of 'V' shape, rounded foot knop. The catchplate is solid and complete.

Roman copper alloy , cf. brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands), cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.b. Plate 46. Itr is 57mm long, 21mm wide and 19 mm thick. The brooch is in a fair condition with a green patina and weighs 13.35 grams. The brooch consists of two short hollow circular sectioned wings with raised circular ends, 7mm in diameter. The bow is plain and circular in section, it begins with a large rounded protrusion with a semi-circular protrusion sitting at each side.
