A gilded silver annular brooch, complete with pin. The circular frame of the brooch is in the form of a rope-like plait and is triangular in cross-section. The pin is formed of a cast strip of silver, one end hammered into a pin constriction around the brooch frame. The pin has a vertical band forming a collar and tapers to a point, it is D-shape in section. Traces of gilding are visible across the brooch, it is particularly extensive on the reverse of the pin. Treasure case 2016 T691: Disclaimed returned to finder Description: A fragment of a medieval silver-gilt annular brooch. The wire frame is decorated with two knops and one applied flower. The pin does not survive. Traces of gilding survive on the knops, which have punched decoration. The brooch dates to the 13th century. Dimensions: maximum width 25 mm. Conclusion: In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
