A cast copper alloy Roman brooch, of the Polden Hill type, dating to 1st Century AD. The bow, spring and catch plate are still present, ribbed moulding is present on the upper portion of the bow. It is similar to #383, p301 in Hattatt's Visual Catalogue of Ancient Brooches (2000).

The object consists of an oval shaped head which has a rectangular shaped protrusion emerging from the upper edge. A sub-circular sectioned bow emerges from the centre. It is complete except for the pin. The spring is attached by a pierced crest on the head and is wrapped around an axis bar which is enclosed in a springcase with capped ends. The fitting is of the form that typifies this type: a semi-cylindrical tube with perforated plates at each end to accommodate the pin that held the coiled spring. The return of the spring was secured by a backward curving hook at the end of the brooch. Foot from a Roman brooch of Hod Hill type. The foot has chamfered edges and tapers down to a small oval terminal and a transverse moulding. Above the foot are two well defined transverse ribs each bearing fine transverse lines. At 90 degrees to these ribs are five longitudinal ribs. On the underside of the brooch is a catch plate, slightly folded over to secure the pin. The surface of the brooch bears traces of silvering or tinning.
