Fragment of Roman copper alloy Aesica brooch, consisting of the Polden Hill spring mechanism, head and upper bow only. It is 16.2mm in length and weighs 3.49g. The cylindrical head houses six coils and the chord rests on the top of the bow. The head measures 14.3mm in width. The circular side lugs of the polden Hill type hold the ?iron axis bar in place. Where the bow extends from the head it is 8.4mm wide. A silvered copper alloy Roman light crossbow brooch dating to the period c. AD 320 - 410. The brooch is missing the tip of one wing and the pin. It measures 40.15mm in length, 21.5mm maximum width, 12.5mm thick and weighs 3.29 grams. The head features a projecting rounded knop with a convex top and a short collared neck. The wings are circular in cross-section with a flattened reverse. One wing terminates in a circular knop, the other is slightly damaged to the reverse. 17mm diameter enamelled flat and plain edged Roman copper alloy plate brooch, spring mechanism and catchplate complete except for curl, but pin is missing. At the centre of the brooch is a 2mm diameter hole flanked by a 1mm width copper alloy rim.
